5 airlines win bids under RCS-UDAN

Out of the 43 bids that the Indian aviation ministry received, the five airlines that have gained licences are Alliance Air, SpiceJet, Air Deccan, Air Odisha and TruJet have emerged winner in the first round of bidding and are set to get flights under the Regional Connectivity Scheme. Airports Authority of India (AAI), the implementing agency, will issue Letter of Awards for 27 proposals received under RCS-UDAN. A total of 13 un-served airports will get flights under the scheme. The total seats on these routes will be around 13 lakh and the scheme will be active in the next 4-6 months. Air India has got 15 routes, Spice Jet has got 11, Turjet 18, Air Deccan 34 and Air Odisha has got 50 routes. Apart from the 13 un-served airports, 43 airports too will be part of this project.
50 percent of seats on every flight will cost Rs 2,500 per seat under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme. This will be applicable for flights where the distance is less than 500 km or one-hour.

Some of the routes under UDAN flights will cover are New Delhi to Bhatinda, Gwalior to Indore, Gwalior to Lucknow, New Delhi to Pathankot, Jaipur to Agra, Surat to Diu, Ahmedabad to Jamnagar, Varanasi to Kanpur, Chennai to Pondicherry and Raipur to Bilaspur, New Delhi to Shimla, New Delhi to Bikaner, New Delhi to Bhunthar.
